How to Add Fonts to Embrilliance
Install a BX font in Embrilliance, or merge separate letter stitch files and line them up. Edition limits come from Embrilliance's own help.
Published · Updated

If the file is a BX installer, double-click that file or drag it into the design window, then confirm the install window. If the file is a folder of separate letter stitch files, those letters are not a BX installer: map them to keys and drag each one onto a baseline with AlphaTricks, from the Utility menu item Import Font, which is how Embrilliance's AlphaTricks help turns stitch files into a font you can type.
Embrilliance's types-of-lettering help names the same split: built-in fonts come with purchased products such as Essentials or Font Collections, and stitch-file fonts arrive as a BX file from an outside digitizer or are created with AlphaTricks.
Express Mode is the free way to run the platform, and that page says you can type and save, while resizing a design and merging lettering with other stitch files are Essentials jobs. The script name font is coming soon at $6.00.
Install a BX font
Download the Embrilliance Platform from Embrilliance's Express page when a platform title is not already installed, and on a Mac run the installer from the desktop because macOS may quarantine a download, then grant Full Disk Access. Embrilliance's FAQ says Windows users may have to unzip the platform download first, and the Express page offers an exe if unzipping that platform file is a problem.
Leave the serial-number field blank and press Continue to enter Express Mode, which the FAQ says is free, and a newsletter signup is not required. A Designs by JuJu install guide gives the same Continue step before it installs that seller's BX fonts.
A BX file is an installation file for the platform, and the FAQ says it is most often used to install keyboard-ready embroidery fonts, though it can also install libraries and other assets. An outside font comes from a font provider, which is how the types-of-lettering help describes a BX file, while one of Embrilliance's own collections is downloaded from their downloads page and then run into the platform. The Font Library help searches fonts already on the system, so a new installer is not downloaded from that window.
Unzip a compressed font download first, because the FAQ assumes any compressed files are already unzipped, then double-click the BX installer or drag its icon into the main design window and wait for the window that confirms the installation. Some sellers ship one installer per size: the JuJu guide says each size in their font files is installed separately, by double-clicking each one, and that a pop-up confirms each install. That is how that seller's packs are built. If your font came with a PDF, follow that PDF, which is what Embrilliance's products help tells you to do.
Embrilliance's own add-on collections are BX installers too, and the downloads page says to run the BX into the platform and then add your serial number, and it marks those collection entries serial required. Ordinary compatible BX fonts are a separate case: Express Mode types them when no platform serial is entered. The downloads page says that free mode runs free of a serial and can use BX-installed fonts from anywhere. The collection serial on those add-on entries still applies.
After the install, create a lettering design and open its property page: on a system with the Font Library, an Aa button opens the Fonts window, and where that feature is not available the button stays a question mark that shows the characters in the font, while you still choose the font from the pop-up on that property page, as the Font Library help describes. Fonts already installed from Embrilliance products or from BX installations also appear in the Designers tree in the Font Library help, which mirrors the folders in your library. Imported fonts show a needle over their icon, and because they are stitch files, underlay and density stay as digitized, which the AlphaTricks help states.
Merge separate letter files and line them up
Design companies often digitize an alphabet as ordinary stitch files, and the AlphaTricks help says those letters have to be brought in one at a time, a shared baseline is not already set, and copy-and-paste can scramble the sewing order. AlphaTricks is the sold product that maps that folder into a font you can type, and Embrilliance's products help lists it with the other paid platform titles, separate from free Express Mode. The selection guide describes the same job: map sets of lettering designs into a keyboard font, then type with it, size it, and colorize it.
On the Import Font dialog, open Utility, choose Import Font, click New Font, select the letter files in one folder, and use Add Designs later if a letter is missing. Map each design in the Letter field, or use the quick-map buttons when the files already sit in order; for a monogram, the MGM menu in the AlphaTricks help marks Left, Center, or Right. Which initial goes where is in monogram letter order.
Line the letters up before you save, using the AlphaTricks help: a black line in the view is the baseline, drag each letter onto it, hold Ctrl to move more slowly, and nudge apostrophes and descenders. The Baseline drop box in the AlphaTricks help can set the line at the bottom, the top, or the center, and center is the setting for a monogram that should sit centered. Spacing between letters and between words is saved with the font as a percentage of the font height; the default in the AlphaTricks help suits most fonts you map. Save under a short unique name, because a long name can run past the font list, and check Hide this font in the AlphaTricks help to keep an imported font off that list for now.
A BX installer and a folder of letter stitch files are different inputs, which is the split in types of lettering. How size and stitch type change a name on cloth is in embroidery design fonts.
What each edition can do with the font
In Express Mode you can type and save, and you can write a machine stitch file with Save Stitch File As, which the FAQ names, while resizing a design and merging lettering with other stitch files sit outside that free mode on the Express Mode page. The types-of-lettering help states the resize limit on stitch-file fonts directly: AlphaTricks and Essentials will both let you resize those fonts and recalculate their stitches, and free Express Mode will not.
Essentials merges existing embroidery files, includes fonts for multi-line text, monograms, and circle text, and can scale lettering added from a BX font or from AlphaTricks, with stitches recalculated. The selection guide says Enthusiast is not the Essentials feature set, and Essentials is not the Enthusiast feature set, and that added features load after you restart from a new serial number.
The Font Library page says the Font Library feature is not on every system, and that page, which is the top result for this search, covers the Font Library window and is missing Import Font and a baseline.
When a font does not appear
Start with the install: double-click the BX file again, or drag it into the design window, and wait for the confirm window the FAQ describes. If the seller shipped one file per size, install each size, as the JuJu guide does for its own packs.
In the Fonts window, Filter can limit the list to native fonts, to imported fonts, or to all, and the Font Library help defines that imported filter as stitch files grouped into a font by AlphaTricks. A search box narrows the list further, and Reset in the Font Library help clears the search fields and displays all fonts. The Designers tree in the Font Library help lists fonts installed from Embrilliance products or from BX installations, grouped by folder. Hide this font, on an imported font in the Import Font dialog, removes it from the lettering property list until you clear the box. Discard Font moves the font, with its folder, into a library folder named Discarded, and the font will not load until you move that folder back from the Library Folder, which the Font Library help describes.
Built-in fonts are available in purchased products such as Essentials or Font Collections, as types of lettering states, rather than as part of the free Express Mode description. If you just added a serial number for one of those products, restart before you look again, which is the selection guide step.
Save the name for the machine
When the lettering looks right, open the File menu and choose Save Stitch File As: the FAQ says the save window has a drop-down of machine embroidery formats at the bottom, so pick the format, choose a folder, and save. If you stitch on a Brother machine, the path from a saved file to the machine is in Brother embroidery designs. A name on a towel is covered in how to embroider on towels.
Follow the PDF that came with a purchased BX font when the pack includes one, which the products help tells you to use for that installer. Mapping separate letter files still requires AlphaTricks, which the products help lists as its own paid title, separate from free Express Mode.
Questions
Which version of Embrilliance is free?
Express Mode is the free mode: leave the serial-number field blank and press Continue, as Embrilliance's FAQ describes, and that page says a newsletter signup is not required.
Does embrilliance have built-in fonts?
Yes. Built-in fonts come with purchased products such as Essentials or Font Collections, as the types of lettering help says, while the Express Mode page describes the free mode as the way to type BX fonts.
Does Embrilliance have fonts?
Yes. Purchased titles such as Essentials include built-in fonts, and a BX installer adds a stitch-file font you can type, which is the split in types of lettering.
How to download bx fonts into Embrilliance?
Get the BX file from a font provider, as types of lettering describes an outside BX file, or from Embrilliance's downloads page when it is one of their collections, then unzip it and double-click it or drag it into the design window, which is the FAQ install step.
Why are my fonts not showing up in Embrilliance?
Confirm the install window from the FAQ, press Reset in the Fonts window and check the Discarded folder in the Font Library help, and clear Hide this font on an imported font in AlphaTricks. Built-in fonts belong to purchased products such as Essentials, as types of lettering states.
How do I add more fonts to Embrilliance Essentials?
Install another BX file the same way, or map another folder of letter stitch files with AlphaTricks. Essentials can resize those stitch-file fonts and recalculate the stitches, which free Express Mode will not do, as types of lettering states.
